Data and AV Cabling Installation for New PC Suite and Teaching Space at the Francis Crick Institute

Kings Cross, Central London

About the Client and
Project Overview

Client: The Francis Crick Institute
As their chosen dedicated data cabling provider, we were tasked with installing a complete structured cabling system, as well as a custom comms cabinet, AV equipment, PCs, and associated cabling.

Project Objectives

To provide a large system in a small space, the client required a setup in which around 20 students, each with their own dedicated PC, could be taught and work simultaneously. Space was a major consideration, particularly regarding cable management due to restrictions both below the desks and along cable routes.

The client also required a setup that would allow students to switch between Windows and Mac at each desk with the touch of a button. We sourced switches that provided this functionality, and it worked perfectly—a very happy client!

All active equipment (network switches, PCs, Macs) needed to be housed within a dedicated comms cabinet inside the PC suite. The challenge was both space and noise. We specified a cabinet that would not only provide sufficient space to house all required equipment for the project but also be acoustic, reducing noise, and aesthetically pleasing.

 Our Solution

INL designed and installed not only a complete and dedicated structured cabling system to serve the client’s requirements, but also the complete networking and AV hardware infrastructure to meet their need to teach multiple students comfortably in a confined environment.

Results and Benefits

  • A new teaching space in a previously underutilized meeting area.
  • The ability to teach multiple students in a smaller space.
  • The convenience for students and staff to switch between Windows and Mac from a single screen, depending on their preference.
