As the official incumbent specialist structured cabling installer for UCL, we were asked to provide a complete structured cabling system for the UCL200 Bicentenary project.

Project Objectives

The primary objective of this project was to deliver a high-performance, future-ready structured cabling infrastructure to support the UCL200 Bicentenary Project. The installation aimed to ensure seamless data, voice, and system connectivity across multiple buildings within the Gower Street campus.

 Our Solution

Provision of structured cabling to serve:

  • Fibre optic and Cat6A backbone connectivity to multiple remote comms cabinets from the local MER.
  • Structured cabling system (SCS) to connect voice and data services, building management systems (BMS), wireless access points (WAPs), security solutions, and access control devices to the UCL network.

Unique challenges were faced, such as specifying a cable type that could be directly buried within the fabric of the building—a requirement due to the aesthetic considerations of the architect’s design. Meetings were held between INL and the manufacturer with the customer’s requirements clearly in mind, and a suitable solution was sourced that worked perfectly.

Finding a solution to safely and securely connect network cables serving AV equipment below ground in locations with limited space and exposure to the elements. A suitable enclosure was designed by INL to fit the space, allowing the equipment to be connected in a secure and weather-tight environment.

Results and Benefits

This is an ongoing project. There will be no measurable benefits in terms of speed, etc., as it is a new project and therefore a completely new system. However, it is a large and vitally important project for UCL as it celebrates its 200-year anniversary, and INL is proud to have been trusted and chosen directly to be a part of it.
